Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We discuss the effects of spatial chirp of the built-in grating on the bistable performance of DFB semiconductor amplifiers. Simulations show that devices with a total linear variation in the grating period of as little as 0.24% exhibit uniform hystereses over a spectral range of 12.5 GHz, at switching powers less than 0.1mW. For a narrower spectral range, we predict switching at submicrowatt powers with larger than 30 dB gain. Applications of these improvements to optical memory and switching are discussed.
