Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Optical amplification is important technology for fundamental tools of optical communication and optical information processing. Particularly, pulse amplification of pico and femto seconds may yield accomplishment of optical high speed transmission and optical computing systems. Optical fiber amplifiers have very long lengths of 10~100 m due to low density of active ions, and are nor suitable for amplification of access systems and optical circuits of information processing. The author has investigated small highly efficient optically pumped integrated type optical amplifiers using rare-earth ions doped garnet films. More than 15 dB/cm amplification has been accomplished for Nd doped type, and further Er and Pr doped integrated type amplifiers are studied theoretically and experimentally so far. In this paper, considering gain spectrum broadening, fundamental theory of optical wideband amplification and pulse amplification in waveguide type integrated amplifiers are shown for multiple wavelength amplification of optical WDM communication.
