Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We present an effective numerical method, in which the propagation characteristics can be solved as an eignvalue problem on a linear differential equation concerning the coefficients in the double Fourier series expansion of the electric and magnetic fields in the Maxwell equations, introducing a virtual periodicity in both transverse directions of the arbitrary waveguide system. Using the method, accurate analysis of the connection problem between a optical fiber and an embedded optical waveguide whose index distribution is parabolic profile is tried. Then the effects of the gap and the transverse shifts between both waveguides are made clear, and the effectiveness of the method is confirmes.
