Narrow beam divergence in tapered-active-stripe DFB lasers

Abstract(in English) The tapered-active-stripe structure without additional mode transformers has been applied for DFB lasers for butt-coupling into the single-mode fiber. The taper structure has been designed to avoid the degradation in mode-selectivity assuming the uniform grating. The fabricated laser has demonstrated narrow beam divergence of 13~14°, threshold ccurrent of 16.9mW and slope efficiency of 0.47 mW/mA at 25℃. These results indicate that the tapered-active-stripe structure is promising to realize narrow beam divergence DFB lasers.
