Analysis of four-wave mixing in a semiconductor optical amplifier by beam propagation method

Abstract(in English) We have numerically analyzed the nondegenerate four-wave mixing(FWM) among short opical pulses in a semiconductor opitcal amplifier(SOA) by the finite difference beam propagation method. We used the nonlinear propagation equation taking into account the dynamic gain saturation and gain dispersion which depend on carrier depression and carrier heating, group velocity dispersion, self-phase modulations, and two-photon absorption. To analyze the FWM in an SOA, the evolution in time and spectral domain of two input optical pulses with different frequencies during propagation have been calculated. The basic FWN characteristics obtained by this method qualitatively agreed with the results previously reported.
