Abstract(in English) The low cost and mass productive techniques for optical modules have been developed for the purpose of realization of economical optical network system. We have attempted cost reduction of optical modules by using surface mount techniques for automatic assembly. The key techniques for optical surface mount are passive alignment, a simple detachable connector and surface mount packaging. As the result of realization these key techniques, surface mount optical modules can be assembled by automatic assembly line. Besides, the optical surface mount concept is suitable for integration to electrical circuit;therefore integrated module can be applied by using the same surface mount techniques.
