Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We investigate the relaxation oscillation in Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers whose gain is clamped by internal laser oscillation. In the mathematical model based on the simplified rate equation for the two-level atomic system, it is shown that the relaxation oscillation frequency and the damping rate can be expressed as simple functions of the pumping rate and input signal powers. This theory can also explain the reason why the relaxation oscillation hardly affects surviving signal powers. These theoretical predictions are experimentally confirmed by using a gain-clamped EDFA.
