Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Formulae, which calculate the degradation of gain and noise figure in high concentration erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) under wide range of operating condition, are derived by solving new rate equations. The equations are employing the cooperative upconversion and the excited-state absorption at 1.48μm as erbium concentration dependent degradation mechanisms. Moreover, another formula, which calculates the gain degradation for each mechanism, is derived for the first time. It is shown that there are limits on gain and noise figure mainly determined by the concentration, by analyzing model-parameters dependence of the gain and noise figure degradation. The reason why gain is larger in counter-propagation pumping than in co-propagation pumping is also given by analyzing the formula.
