Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A vertical transmission optical amplifier has been investigated as a key device to realize parallel optical buses for massively parallel computers. A multiple active layer structure has been proposed and analyzed to enhance the internal gain. A prototype device with double active layers grown by MOCVD has been fabricated. Input/output characteristics has been measured and the single pass gain of 0.4dB has been obtained. This is the first estimation of the internal gain for a vertical transmission optical amplifier.
