Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Optical fibers have been made from optical glasses with different transformation temperatures and index reductions caused by rapid cooling. It is shown that the index difference between the core and the cladding can be partly decreased and increased by local heat treatment. The mode field is expanded by the heat treatment at a low temperature because of the reduced index difference. The mode field is shrinked by tapering and rapid cooling from a hight temperature owing to the increased index difference at the taper.
