60GHz Band Electroabsorption Modulator Module

Abstract(in English) We have successfully developed a 60GHz-band E/O converter module using an electroabsorption(EA) modulator with passive waveguide for an optical feeder system. An impedance matching circuit of double open stub type was built in this module. We maximized the return loss value by trimming the open stubs with a laser cutter. The return loss after trimming was more than 15 dB from 58.4 to 61 GHz. When the module was modulated at 59.6GHz with an RF input power of 6dBm, detected RF peek power and the modulation depth were -37dBm and 30%, respectively. The third order intermodulation distortion (IMD3) was estimated by two tone experiments. The IMD3 to carrier ratio was -44 to -48dBc with an RF input power from -5 to -1dBm.
