Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We demonstrate a successful ultrafast all-optical clock extraction and optical gating by using the optical signal processing function of mode-locked laser diodes (MLLDs). Our study showed that an optical clock extraction technique based on synchronous mode-locking with MLLDs was adaptable to ultrahigh-bit-rate systems up to 80 Gbit/s, with both same-frequency and subharmonic optical clock extraction. We investigated the dynamics of a saturable absorber (SA) in an MLLD and found that the SA exhibited ultrafast absorption recovery time (under 8 ps) and could be applied to optical gating. We also demonstrated 40 to 10 Gbit/s all-optical demultiplexing utilizing these MLLD signal processing features.
