Design and Integration of Grating Components in AlGaAs GRIN-SCH Waveguide

Abstract(in English) Theoretical design and experimental work of grating components in AlGaAs graded-index separate-confinement heterostructure(GRIN- SCH)waveguide for implementation of a monolithically integratedoptic interferometer position sensor are presented.The sensor is composed of three kinds of gratings;a focusing grating coupler(FGC),a grating beam splitter(GBS)and a distributed feedback reflector(DBR)and a GRIN-SCH single quantum well(SQW) distributed feedback(DFB)laser diode,which has advantages for this kind of integration,such as high wavelength stability. The electric field profiles of the guiding mode and the radiation modes in GRIN-SCH waveguide were calculated first.Then based on the coupled mode theory,those three kinds of gratings in the waveguide were designed using the mode profiles.The integrated grating device was fabricated and examined.The functions of the FGC and the GBS were experimentally demonstrated.
