Abstract(in English) Generation of wide optical sideband by electorooptic modulation is applicable to ultrashort optical pulse generation,and these pulses have advantages of controllability and stability.Since sideband broadening is proportional to modulation index,generation of optical short pulses requires large modulation index. To make an effective interaction length long,we have proposed a quasi-velocity-matched(QVM)electrooptic modulator with domain inversion.In this paper,the fabrication and the experiments of QVMelectrooptic modulator of an LiTaO_3 crystal are described.The modulation index was 90rad at 16.25GHz.The spectral broadening was 2.9THz(FWHM),which is the world record as for using electrooptic modulation.With high-index phase modulation,we also obtained 1.2ps and 3.8ps(FWHM)pulses by pulse compression and optical pulse synthesizer respectively.
