Characteristics of mode-locked Er-doped fiber laser

Abstract(in English) We demonstrate mode-locking of an Er-doped fiber laser which has an InGaAsP laser diode as a high-speed optical modutecor.Using an LD as a saturable absorber,self-Q-switching and self-mode-locking was obtained.The typical pulse duration was 40ns.Active-mode- locking was obtained when the LD was operated as a with optical gain.The pulse duration wes inversely proportional to the modubdon frequency.When barmonic number is 390(1.54244GHz),120ps optical pulses were obtained.By short pulse current modulation(~100ps),muc h shorter pulses(~30ps)were obtained when harmonic number is 211(8 34.21MHz).
