Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Laser diode (LD) is investigated as a suitable light source for an optical intersatellite link. The requirements for LD are high power and single-lobed beam. However, a broad-area LD has the problem of beam filamentation because of its a wide active area, when it is used for communication. In this study, we focus on the cavity length and the linewidth enhancement factor, and analyze the beam filamentation of a broad-area LD. It is shown that self-focusing is eliminated, and the phase tistortion is decreased by using the QW structure.
