Abstract(in English) | In this work, we study the nonlinearities of BDN dye solution in detail by using z-scan methods.The single beam z-scan experiment shows that the main origin of the intensity-dependent refractive index change is neither the population redistribution of the dye molecules nor the saturable absorption, but thermal, even though the pulse width of an incident beam is about 20 nanoseconds.Moreover, we have determined the fall time and the rise time of index change using single beam and two-color z-scan methods, respectively.The experimental results also show that the build up of the thermal lens is attributed to the photoacoustic effect and the rise time is proportional to the beam spot size.The fall time is determined by the thermal diffusion and is generally an order of milliseconds.For a tightly-focused beam, the rise time can be as fast as an order of ten nanoseconds. |
