Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Since the fabrication of single-mode rare-earth-doped fibers was first reported, these fibers have found a number of applications as active fiber devices represented by Er^<3+>-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA). In this paper, we fabricated a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) using the EDFA and measured all-optical switching characteristics at the signal wavelength of 1.55μm pumped by the wavelength of 1.48μm laser light. The variations of NALM output (transmitted) powers versus gains of the EDFA and the change of ratio of transmitted powers to reflected powers with respect to input powers were confirmed experimentally.
