Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Propagation characteristics of the guided waves or modes in a step-index planar waveguide sidewalled with metals is theoretically studied by the effective refractive index method. Numerical results of the geometrical and wavelength dispersions for the propagation constants and losses of the modes are presented. The aim of this work is to investigate the possibility of fabricating low-loss and small-size integrated optical waveguides or circuits by using the metallized sidewall structure. |
