Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To realize the compactness and cost reduction in the fabrication of star coupler, we have employed the highly efficient 32-fiber bonding process. Using the high-density planar lightwave circuit, consisting of two 1×16 splitter circuits in a single chip, and fiber array with core pitch half of the normal 250 μm, we have achieved the same bonding accuracy as the previous normal pitch process. In addition, high performance dicing and mirror-finishing process with polishing liquid has also been used to produce low roughness highly-polished bonding surfaces. The excellent optical characteristics similar to that of the previous bonding process were achieved using the above technologies.
