Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) we propose a three-waveguide nonlinear directional coupler (three-waveguide NLDC) consisting of a nonlinear center-waveguide and two linear side-waveguides containing a different refractive index region. The light of TE_0 mode is assumed to be launched into the center-waveguide. We show that significantly improved performance of switching can be obtained in the case of this model by comparison with the case of a conventional three-waveguide NLDC not containing a different refractive index region or a conventional two-waveguide NLDC. We analyze the properties by using the Crank-Nicolson finite difference beam propagation method with iterative calculation (iterative FD-BPM).
