Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This report identifies media synchronization problems of MPEG-4 multimedia com-munication over QoS non-guaranteed networks and discusses approaches to the problems. Loss of data and delay jitter occur on QoS non-guaranteed networks like the Internet and wireless networks. However, the MPEG-4 standard does not take these factors into consideration; this produces several problems in applying the standard to QoS non guaranteed networks. First, we point out that some assumptions in the MPEG-4 standard are not valid for QoS non-guaranteed networks. We next show that media synchronization control is insufficient in the reference soft-ware Im1 for the MPEG-4 System Part. We then mention some issues in introducing media synchronization control to MPEG-4 communication systems. Finally we consider possible ap-proaches to the problems.
