Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) With BS digital broadcast service coming in 2000, objective measurement technologies for perceptual digital compressed video quality is strongly hoped for in wide application areas such as operational monitoring at broadcasting and video communication, and conformance testing at codec manufacturers. In fact, active research and developments are recently carried out even at ITU standardization activities as well as at various research organizations. The objective measurement means to automatically provide a picture quality score equivalent to subjective score obtained by human observations. In this paper, firstly, quantitative representation on human perceptual characteristics and objective measurements parameters defined by the US ANSI as a basic knowledge concerning the objective measurement are introduced. And then, the present state of development of actual objective measurement systems are reported.
