Abstract(in English) We propose a new method called NEPRI that can measure the bottleneck bandwidth on IP network paths by packet probing. Conventional methods require many probing packets to be sent in order to reduce the measurement error caused by the RTT variance of the packets. In our method, RTT value is only used to check whether the probing packets are queued or not in the bottleneck. The bottleneck bandwidth is calculated not using RTT value but the transmit rate of the probing packets, so that the RTT variance could not affect the measurement accuracy. Therefore, using a few probing packets, our method can measure the bandwidth as accurately as others in congested networks.
