IP path characterization based on one way delay measurement

Abstract(in English) We propose a new method to evaluate one-way hop-by-hop properies (bandwh/delay) of a path in IP networks based on one-way delay measurement from end nodes. In this paper we confirm that one-way delay measurement is possible by ICMP timestamp packets, and present an experimental result to show that bandwidth and queueing delay at a hop can be evaluated independently for upward and downward directions. We also show that queueing delay can be correlated with network resource utilization.
