Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper focuses on a single BSA (Basic Service Area) in an infrastructure network and studies the performance of the IEEE802.11 standard MAC protocol by means of simulation. The simulation model includes both data transmission with the DCF (Distributed Coordination Function) and H. 263 video transmission with the PCF (Point Coordination Function). We evaluate the performance of this protocol in terms of throughput and average delay for various values of CFP (Contention Free Period) repetition interval and CFP maximum duration under several traffic conditions and channel error rates. Numerical results show that if the CFP repetition interval is set too long, video-delay performance deteriorates drastically though the capacity of the CP (Contention Period) becomes slightly larger. We also discuss how the MPDU (Mac Protocol Data Unit) transmission rate and the video encoding rate affect the performance of this protocol.
