Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This report first gives a survey of multimedia streaming techniques over the Internet. Next, by experiment, we investigate how media transmission schemes used in the streaming techniqes affect the transfer efficiency and media synchronization quality in a quantitative way. In the experiment, voice and MPEG video stored in a media server are transmitted to a client terminal with three transmission schemes (time stamp scheme, file transfer scheme, and switching scheme). These media are output after synchronization at the client terminal. We also study the effect of buffering time at the beginning of the output of a media stream on the performance.
