Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We first discuss requirements for media synchronization in distributed virtual environments. Next, we apply the virtual-time rendering(VTR)media synchronization algorithm, which was previously proposed by the authers, to the distributed virtual environments. We propose a scheme which dynamically chooses whether the media synchronization control is exerted or not according to the importance of each media object. The importance is judged by the position and direction of the media object in a virtual space. The scheme also adjusts the quality of media synchronization to the importance of the media object. We have implemented the scheme and made an experiment with stored MPEG video. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the scheme.
