Traffic and Quality Control Mechanism by Band-limited ATM Connection

Abstract(in English) This paper reports the method for controlling the ATM network traffic and quality by band limiting function in the ATM layer. The broadband nature of the source traffic and shared use of the network resources as the cause of uncertainty in the traffic and quality control are first studied from the viewpoints of communication bandwidth, noise, quality and stability. On the basis of these considerations, a traffic and quality control mechanism by the band-limiting function of ATM connection is then proposed with explanation on the system features, functional arrangement and control methods for ensuring stability. Finally, a connection class control method which is capable of developing the network control level flexibly according for diverse conditions of ATM applications and network resources is discussed for implementation of the mechanism.
