Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To demonstrate one important aspect of the perception of temporal structure by the human auditory system, the characteristics of periodicity detection is described by showing the results of the jitter detection experiments in terms of the Auditory Image Model. Physically periodic events can evoke perception of pitch as well as perception of timing depending on its period. The experimental results revealed there is a discontinuous point between these two region, which indicates that there would be two (at fewest) different mechanism for time interval processing. The knowledge of such non-linear perceptual characteristics may contribute to the realization of a new real time communication system.
