A Connection Admission Control for ATM Networks

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we discuss an algorithm of conneciton admission control(CAC) for bursty traffic in ATM netwoks. For homogeneous traffic sources, we (1)estimate the cell loss ratio, using the on-off-state fluid approximation, and (2)determine the bandwidth for required QOS, using the effective bandwidth method. For inhomogeneous traffic, we sum up the effective bandwidth for each traffic type, under the assumption that there is no interference between different traffic types. The algorithmis implemented using table look-up method; values of bandwidth as a function of traffic parameters are tabulated and are linearly interpolated. The proposed CAC system operates fast and improves resource utilization in ATM networks.
