Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The Personal Handy-phone System(PHS)is a new personal communications system witch is created by integrating the latest wireless access technologies based on digital cordless telephones with an enhancement of intelligent network capabilities. currently, PHS provides speech and 3.1kHz audio services. Accordingly, data transmission speed of 4.8kbit/s over voice channel is only available. Taking advant age of PHS's capability to transmit high 32kbit/s digital bearer data (about three times higher than those of digital cellular systems) will enable customers to use mobi1e multimedia transmission services at a lower charge. This paper summarizes trends in PHS data transmission technologies, the currentstate of standardization activities, and indications for future deployment.
