Design method for ATM connection under a multi-QOS environment

Abstract(in English) ATM technology enables to accommodate user traffic that requires various qualities of services to a common physical network so as to administrate network resources efficiently. In ATM technology, the connections VP/VC are defined using VPI/VCI in the ATM cell header. Several logical networks, which are organized by several VP/VCs, can be constructed on a common physical network. These logical networks are independent of a configuration of a physical network. So, ATM technology provides economical B-ISDN services. However, in order to realize the benefit of the ATM technology, a suitable methodology of connection design is needed. Namely, we need a means to accommodate ATM connections with an appropriate manner in order to boost the ATM technology. Based on the above consideration, we have developed a connection design support system. The paper describes a basic idea for connection design, and shows the support system
