Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have been studying a variable EIRP transponder system as a method of overcoming rain attenuation for 21GHz-band satellite broadcasting systems. To realize a variable-output transponder output power of which varies from 70 to 430 W, we are considering parallel operation of TWTs. Power loss at the combiner due to phase difference between two TWTs and bandwidth restriction due to the difference of path length have been evaluated. We have compared the output phases and power consumption of the TWT with and without cathode current adjustment at the same output power. The results show that the power consumption of the TWT can be reduced by the cathode current adjustment keeping the TWT at saturation. The output power of two 21GHz-band TWTs has been combined, and the maximum power of more than 430 W has been obtained.
