Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) When a lot of dot stimuli exist in a picture, human vision ties up the dot stimuli with a narrow interval, and treats them as one group. In this paper, the authors aim at building quantitatively a new visual information processing model for such a visual grouping. For a start, a psychophysical experiment that searches for the target stimuli with a small interval out of a lot of distractor stimuli that have been arranged with a uniform interval is conducted. The author examined a characteristic of the grouping by proximity. In this experiment, if the interval of target stimuli is small enough in comparison with the interval of distractor stimulus, the target stimuli will be grouping in an instant, that is, will be perceived as a group. The process is considered to be a kind of pop-out. And, based on psychophysical experiments, the authors built a model quantitatively.
