Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a method of estimating gender and age, which compares an input face with the prototypes of the average face data. Each average face is calculated from the faces in the class of the same gender and the same five-year period of age. The input face is estimated as belonging to the class whose average face gives the minimum distance to the input face. Experiments with the "HOIP-FACE-DB" showed that our proposed method could achieve hitting ratios of approximately 83% and 27% for gender and age respectively. Although these are not so good as the results of the human perception, which showed hitting ratios of 98.2% and 30.8% in our psychological experiments. we could show the prospect for automatic gender and age estimation from human face.
