New Approach to Language Teaching : Visualization of Chinese Pronunciation

Abstract(in English) This paper discusses the application of computer graphics to help Japanese learners of Chinese to learn Chinese pronunciation. By providing visual three-dimensional presentation of lips, tongue, and teeth and their movements, the learners can learn to control their own lips and tongue to produce accurate Chinese sounds. These parts of mouth can be transparent or translucent in order to bring better understanding of the movements of these parts of mouth. The graphics can be rotated, stopped, or repeated as the learners desire. This application is the first of its kind to present dynamics of sound systems of Chinese and can be applied to other languages.
