Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A face is a very familiar object to human being. It can efficiently convey various information that is hard to express in verbal communication. Recently, as an engineering application, researches on the synthesis of facial expressions have been intensively performed in order to realize the man-machine communication that employs faces for the non-verbal expressions. This paper focused on developing a new method for the synthesis of facial expressions for realizing the facial animation that is compliant with the specification of MPEG-4, the international standard of the object-based codec. Some movement rules of vertices on the facial model were devised by taking account of the influences on the vertices located in the neighborhood of a feature point that was controlled by FAP (Facial Action Parameter). Due to the proposed method, natural facial expression was successfully realized.
