Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a new algorithm to extract skin-color regions in a real-time video stream. A traditional method to extract pixels which likelihood of skin-color is over a threshold often gets noisy results. To cope with this problem, we take a coarse to fine approach. A block-wise decision is applied recursively, from large blocks with a high threshold to half size blocks with a lower threshold. In this process, non-skin color blocks are discarded step by step until the resolution reaches to a desired one. Before we implement our algorithm, we investigate what type of skin-color model is better, and what color space we should use. If we use a color histogram for a skin-color model, the extraction result does not depend much on color spaces. These arguments are also described.
