A Study on Two-Layered Lossless Video Coding Using Spatio-temporal Hilbert Scanning

Abstract(in English) In image processing, coding techniques are required to improve the efficiency of transmission and storage of image data. In transmission of image data, we often utilize hierarchical coding method which layereds image data according to the picture quality. For example, when this method is applied to image database retrieval, user of the retrieval service knows brief description of transmitted image and can judge whether its image contents of information to need or not. So, in this paper, we suggest the hierarchical lossless video coding method which consists of two-layered coding process. In addition, this method can perform high-speed decode in the initial layer. In our suggestion, we map the three-dimensional data to one-dimensional data along the Hilbert curve and then apply two-layered coding to the one-dimensional data. This is in order to realize rapidity of decoding process and coding process by doing it with process for one-dimensional data.
