Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A reference model was made to find out requirements to built up a 3D virtual reality telecommunication system including a facial picture coding. Two requirements were found out for the system. First, two kinds of control signals should be made available, one is to enable senders designate their receivers, another is to enable receivers control the quality of facial pictures. Second, since UDP protocol is recommended for the real-time interactive converstion using facial images in a 3D virtual reality environment, either an intra-frame coding or a multiple layered coding without a basic layer is recommened.
