Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We study the multimedia services focusing to a regional area, that include the content delivery of medical care, welfare and education using video conference systems and high speed networks. We are developing the residents initiative service systems, which has high level service availability independent of their living locations. The research centers of the universities located in downtown are connected with the labs in distant district by ATM networks(JGN), and the labs are connected to the neighboring public centers and the sites of villages using wireless LAN and high speed digital leased line. We are also experimenting the delivery of MPEG-2 HD contents such as high resolution medical images which need broader band networks using high speed wireless optical transmitters as wireless ATM networks.
