Data cache control for Texture Display : Second report : Adaptive control of density and margin of data cache

Abstract(in English) This paper describes a design of haptic data cache control for the Texture Display system. The cache control enables a high-speed updating presentation which is crucial for haptic displays. The design places haptic data cache on a shared-memory of two computers in order to provide a fast local feedback loop on a control computer driving the Texture Display. The finger velocity of user's exploring motion and the processing time of a host computer were measured before setting parameters of the cache control. A spatial dinsity and a margin size were adaptively selected to a finger velocity as control parameters. A discrimination experiment was performed regarding two sets of texture samples. The results showed that the adaptive cache control presented haptic textures effectively to the subjects in both high and low speed ranges of finger motion.
