Hierarchical MPEG Image Retrieval based on Motion Vectors

Abstract(in English) The authors are developing a hierarchical algorithm for motion image retrieval based on motion information extracted from MPEG bitstreams. This paper first describes a Graphical User Interface(GUI) developed for a user to input image scenes he has in mind to the retrieval system. To cope with ambiguity or noise in the given images, a smoothing technique for motion histograms is proposed in this paper. The details of the hierarchical retrieval is also discussed. Finally, a numerical evaluation for the performance of the proposed technique is shown.
