Fairness Issue in ABR Service of ATM Networks: Peformance Comparison of ERICA & EPRCAM

Abstract(in English) The A Bit Rate(ABR)service of Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM)networks employs explicit rate notification algorithms like EPRCA and ERICA to ensure fair distribution of available bandwidth among contending sources with minimum cell loss. In this paper, we will describe how our proposed algorithm(EPRCAM) solves problems of EPRCA algorithm. We will show that, the tuning problem of measurement interval and queue control factor in ERICA algorithm produces substantial unfairness in bandwidth utilization by contending sources. We will show that due to these problems of ERICA, it is outperformed by the EPRCAM algorithm in terms fairness performance. We will also show that EPRCAM is much simpler to Implement than ERICA.
