Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes an intuitive interface system for designing 3D shapes between men and computers. This system allows to generate a 3D shape using hand gestures combined with verbal expressions. Current 3D modeling tools do not serve shape design well because they mainly use 2 dimensional pointing devices that are not intuitive to use. If we use a virtual environment as a space for getting ideas about 3D shape design, we could intuitively describe 3D shape objects. Our approach to convert from gesture trajectory point position data to a generalized super quadric function representation, and utilize verbal expressions to constrain vibration modes of a generalized super-quadric function representation. We realized such an interface system to integrate hand gestures and verbal expressions to represent a 3D shape.
