Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An interactive manipulation system of elastic objects is described as an example of virtual manipulation of nonrigid objects, which enables us to execute actions such as 'hitting' or 'pushing' elastic objects as if they were real actions. Operator can control a rigid stick by using mouse and manipulate the elastic object constructed by mass-and-spring lattice model in the virtual space. Response of the elastic object in the contact with the manipulator is generated fast based on dynamics by the numerical solution method and displayed by real-time computer graphics. A new spring model improved for the case that the elastic object receive too much volume of external force is also presented. Effectiveness of that model and interactivity of the system are discussed based on numerical simulation in practice.
