Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this study the authors develop the emotional interaction man-machine system using facial expression. By employing input function of facial expression into the computer, this system recognizes human emotional feelings by image processing and responds to it by facial expression of graphics. In this system, there are six expressions (happiness, surprise, fear, anger, disgust, sadness) which includes most basic human emotional feelings, and these ex-pressions with head motions (nodding, tilting one's head, etc. ) are dealt with. The facial expression can be treated structurally because it is based on AU (Action Unit) of FACS (Facial Action Coding System). This system will be applied to user interface for personification of computer systems and to facial expression communication systems.
