Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To provide access for blind people to graphical information on the computer screen which changes frequently, we developed"tactile mice." A tactile mouse consists of an ordinary computer mouse with a tactile display unit on its top. To evaluate its usability, we measured the trajectories of the mouse as a function of time during exploring a virtually tangible line. The result indicates that as the distance sensitivity of the mouse is heightened, the deviation from the virtual line increases. The comparison between this result and the precedent studies shows that the deviation accounts well for the subjective evaluation of the tangibility of virtual lines.
