Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | The semantic differential (SD) technique is often used for measuring aesthetic impressions. The present study suggests a new utilization of the results obtained by the SD technique. The sensory-relevance of each adjective pair is indicated by the probability that the participants chose one of the five sensory modalities when they were asked to selected the most related modality for each adjective pair, relying on their general understanding. The sensory-relevance score can be defined as the sum of these probabilities multiplied by the squared factor loadings. The sensory-relevance score represents how each factor is related to sensory modalities. We applied the sensory-relevance score to three researches that used the SD technique. As a result, we could analyze the factors affecting aesthetic impressions in close relation to human sensory modalities. |
